Sloooow Subway Escalators

I was on the escalator going down the cavern that is the Dupont Circle station and thought, man these are really slow. I realize that the Budapest escalators would never be considered safe here, but man do they get the job done.

And Dupont's not even one of the longest escalators in DC. Try Rosslyn, Woodley Park, or the dreaded Wheaton. Forest Glen is so deep it doesn't even have escalators.

As you see in the two videos, people walk them all the time. That's assuming that they're not broken to begin with.

London has Budapest-speed escalators. Actually, the speed is variable with faster running during peak hours to get more people through the system.

You're right about the Dupont Circle escalator being slow, particularly since half the time it isn't moving at all. They break down constantly.

I want to go to budapest! And not because of the fast escalators, although now I can add that to my list of reasons :)

Nice blog!

@ anon and Alex. Yeah I noticed that this morning when I had to haul my suitcase down the escalator. Non moving escalator with cumbersom bags = not cool.
