Repaving on the Orange Line

While the transit agency is blaming the contractor, the contractor is blaming the weight of the buses. The total cost will be about $2 million dollars to repave to the right strength. I wonder how soon the pavement will deteriorate on the rest of the line that was built correctly. Does anyone know how long until they fixed the Pittsburgh busway? I can't seem to find any information on it.

Maybe it's time they put the tracks backs!

Not sure if they have repaved the Pittsburgh Busway (East). That was built in 1984 and the concrete looks it - though spot work was done in summer 08.

I keep hoping that it's a conspiracy to let the concrete fall into such disrepair that the gap to put rail in is not as wide and this a more attractive option... yeah right - like that would happen.

And if they have to repair it this regularly, maybe it won't be such a huge inconvenience to shut the line down for a bit to rebuild the tracks. I wonder how much more expensive rails really are compared to all the maintenance a dedicated paveway requires (and don't forget the much shorter lifespan of the buses, their limited capacity, and slower speed).
