St. Exxon and the Church of the Unleaded

Apparently this church exists in Arlington Virginia.

"Our Lady of Blessed Acceleration"? We have a "Blues Brothers" fan in the house. It's one of my favorite movies--I've even driven on Illinois Highway Four Seven (state Route 47) en route to the Illinois Ry. Museum. And of course one of my favorite Aretha Franklin songs is "Think". Of electric railway interest is the scene in which The Brothers bunk down in Elwood's fleabag hotel--where the "El" cars run right by the window, and Jake asks "Just how often do those trains come by here, anyway?"

Finally someone gets the reference.

I like The Blues Brothers! R.I.P., John Belushi! There is, though, the classic scene where they drive the car through the mall.

A church over a gas station? Here's how I see it: ExxonMobil is telling you, "Kneel before Lee Raymond!" (You were aware of how Lee Raymond claims there's no such thing as global warming.) Or I could think of Dick Cheney. As Cheney said to Pat Leahy: "Go f*** yourself!"
