For Every Dollar Spent

A study for the North Corridor in Charlotte shows that for every dollar spent on transit, $3 will be returned in the form of tax base and economic development. But I thought it was all a socialist plot! You can check out the study for the University City Partners here.

Why is it that right-wingers don't seem to understand that transit systems do make money, not for the government, but for the people directly? I would think a job is worth more than a dollar. And jobs are what transit systems make.

PT: What you are referring to is the NE Corridor or Blue Line Extension or Green Line (take your pick), but not the North Corridor. However the North Corridor already has 1 Billion+ in planned developments along the existing freight tracks.

Interestingly enough NC Politics aren't that simple. It would be a safe bet to say that there are just as many conservatives in favor of transit as there are liberals. Keep in mind that it was Republican Mayors like Myrick and McCrory that got the ball rolling on transit and land use planning.

Brain slip. Northeast Corridor. Too many corridors in this country without transit!

The Northeast Corridor is the busiest transit line in the country.

Yes but the Northeast Corridor in Charlotte does not, nor does the Northeast Corridor in Indianapolis :)
