LRT Hiring

Jobs coming for the Siemens LRT plant in Sacramento. Does anyone know if it was decided whether Breda was going to open a plant in LA? They have one in Pittsburg CA, would the LA opening mean the Pittsburg closing? So many questions!

  1. the Breda offer was to con LAMTA into buying more cars like the ones still not in revenue service because they haven't passed burn in. The ploy included "moving headquarters" probably of a stand alone LLC so NOONE could be sued when the cars fail to perform to spec. After SF, BOS, LA should have known better.

  2. I doubt Bread will be building a plant anytime soon. Breda's American Products are not good quality. I like the looks of them though.

  3. No action yet on the "buy our cars and we'll build the plant in LA" proposal. I was at the Metro Board meeting in July and there was a large contingent from the building trades unions lobbying "for" the Breda plant proposal. In my public comment in favor of speeding up construction of the Gold Line Foothill Extension, I included "let's get this project going and put our brothers and sisters in the building trades back to work!" (even Las Vegas is having a slowdown in construction activity) and got a big cheer from the workers.
