Sunday Night Photo Dump II

Los Angeles TOD along the Gold Line at Mission Meridian and Del Mar Stations. It was a pretty hot day and I needed to catch an airplane but here's what I got...

Del Mar Station is the one where the train goes underneath the Apartments designed by Moule Polyzoides.

Anyone wonder why they need a subway on Wilshire?

Finally, there are a few videos. Two from Del Mar and one from the Police car that they kept running while they were checking tickets on the Mission Station Platform. What a waste of taxpayer dollars!!!

Very cool pictures. I love the picture of the train running through the building. Reminds me of skytrain in Vancouver which runs under a building (which was built well after the line was). See a video here:

As for the police car, they run a huge amount of electronics. Between the computer(s), lights, radios, etc, they simply don't have the battery life to run all that without the car running. They need hybrid police cars.

I love those shots of Wilshire! My argument for the subway goes something like this: stand on top of the Santa Monica Mountains, above Hollywood, and look down. You'll see a big cluster of tall buildings on the far left. That's downtown. And there are smaller clusters of tall buildings heading in a straight line toward the ocean. That's Wilshire. If there's anywhere in LA that a subway would be useful, that would be it.

I used to live in Pasadena and took the train quite a bit. The Mission stop is really great -- I'm glad you included a picture of it.

Re: cops leaving their engines running. It seems like they ALWAYS do that! I wonder if there's a practical reason (maybe something with the computers they have on board) or if it's just wastefulness.

In case you didn't know the Mission Station happens to be racist because it includes more safety features than other stations in poorer areas.

Also it has a coffee shop nearby.
